Jewelry DIY

Triangle.
A very basic shape with witch you can create a lot of difficult formulas.
In witch I unfortunately wasn't that good.. But that's an other story.
What I can tell you about it is that, as I learned in one of the classes I have in my art school , math is actually a very complicated form of art!
I personally have always been very into geometric forms, especially when the are used in jewelry.
There is something timeless and effortless in such a simple and clean shape that apparently really attracts me.
Thats why I  came up with a very simple geometric jewelry DIY. All you need for this is the follow.

1. A metall max. 4 mm wide tube.
2. A workmate to bent your tube on and make sharp angles.
3. black thread
4. A hammer to make your angles sharper with a little man power.

What you want to do first is measure or look at you tube and at about 1/3 make the first angle, about 45 degrees, so pretty sharp. Then use your hammer so the angle will get more defined.
Repeat this step on 2/3 of the tube and make the angle again using your workmate. During this process check if the ends of the tube meat at your third angle or that you have to adjust your triangle a little.
When you are satisfied with your triangle you take your black tread (or an other color you prefer) and make a little knot around your tube. Then you continue to wrap it around the tube (until it makes you dizzy ;)) until you have covert the part of the tube you wanted with the tread. Then on the end you make an other little double knot, to be sure your end is not going to run.
I choose to make a asymmetrical piece of my triangle black with the tread, so their would come a little twist and an other not normal aspect to the triangle, witch I like.

From high to flat?

Birkenstocks.
A word that used to give me very negative associations...
But ever since Phoebe Philo showed them on the catwalk in 2013, a lot of people have been giving them a second change (or gave them a little make over ;).
Seeing all the great possibilities styling wise and imagining my self walking in them, relaxed in the warm sun and then I realize that that will mean that I will be in flat shoes.
Lower to the ground, no sound when I'll walk, no pretty pointed feed.
However fashion is about combining and always searching for the new thing.
But I'm sure that in the end I will definitely go from flat to high again.

Extraordinary water

For extraordinary people like me (and you!!).
You need extraordinary water, because why take just normal plain water when you can at things to it.
I choose to ad some sliced blood orange into my water and when you leave it for a couple hours, your water will get that little hinted sour orange taste.
Off course you can at also mixtures like balsamic and strawberry's, mint and raspberry's or any quint of fruit and herb you like.
Enjoy!

Céline Summer 2014

Me and Céline go back for about 3 years now.
When I first met her, I was mainly impressed with the bags and the fantastic materials, but not so much with the clothes.
Maybe I changed or maybe Céline has changed. Because for the last couple collections I was very impressed with Philo her clothing, bag and shoe designs.
I selected some of my favorite looks, bags and off course shoe's for you down here.
If you know me, you know I always go for well made geometrical accessories and nice unpractical heels.
So I was super happy when I saw those black shoes with the gold geometrical heel.
But when I looked at the pictures of the models walking in them from the front. They looked not as exciting as when you see them from the side.
So in my opinion, ideally this shoe and the other purple design should have been mixed together.
That would give you a black open toe slipper-heel, with that interesting geometrical detail between your toes and with the gold geometrical heel on the back of your foot.
Then it would be gorgeous to see from the front and the side :).
The shoes, bags and the rest of the collection for this summer are from today on available at all the Céline boutiques.

Rainbow hair possibilities

As you maybe saw on my last post. I've got something blue going on, on my heat!

With a little help from L'Oréal Paris Hair Chalk I've got some blue in my hair now (only for about 1,5 week).
To be clear, this hair chalk is not like hair paint, but more like hair make up.
I couldn't resist myself and bought my two favorite colors, blue and purple.
And to show you how it turns out on brown hair. I made some of my brown-hairred sisters lightly purple (she was a bit scared that I'll would give her a neon color).

L'Oréal Paris Hair Chalk is available at the L'Oréal Paris hairsalons for 17,95 per color.

Today was not a normal day.
Today was the day that I got to go the Blog class event from This Chick Got's Style!
Since I have been a dedicated reader for a view years already, I was very excited when I received the email that I was invited.
All dolled up with my new blue-ish hair, I went to the event location in Amsterdam.
What I experienced their was the most inspiring, enthusiastic, passionated, informative, fashion bubble I've ever experienced! It was so a-m-a-zing..
And for someone that has seen the other side of happiness to much, I can say that those truly happy moments are really priceless.
Thanks a lot Yara and all the wonderful bloggers I met for the great day! :)

To fur or not to fur

Sometimes I’ll can’t believe that in the modern times we live in today fur is still such a big discussing point.

Don’t get me wrong I’m also a big animal lover. I love to pet dogs and play with, especially the weird and ugly ones. But I also adore nice fabrics like silk, wool, leather and fur. It feels so riche and soft almost like you can hug your own skin with it. The fabric an designer chooses can really make or break an design for me.
We all know it, you look at a H&M advertising poster and think “ow.. wauw thats such a nice jacket” and then you’l come in to the store and see the real thing and think “ hmm... that colour is very different than I’ll thought it wouldn't be and the fabric doesn’t look as thick and gorgeous as it on the poster looks”.
Here you can see how important good fabrics are for clothes.
So what is my point, look at fur as an riche warm beautiful fabric that gives it designs the texture that the need and not as only the skin of an animal.

Fashionology Silver Vertical Ring

Ever since I got this ring, It suited my like it was my own design. It’s so simple but still so modern and different, that even after two years it still doesn’t bore me. In fact, I feel like I’m Iphone-less when I can’t touch the firm metal around my right middle finger. And if you know that feeling, you know exactly how horrendous that is...So thanks a lot fashionology for al the moments and complements that made me so happy.Cheers to you and your lovely designs!

The Underwear Gene

Hiphugger, bombshell add-2-cups, VS knockout-push-up, sexy little seamless cheekini, multi maximizer, over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder...A lot of people seem to get exited by fluoristic colors and delicate placed push-up lace. But sorry future boyfriend. I’m just not one of them. Of course when I went to New York I did enjoy visiting Victoria Secret, but I felt more like an anthropologist between al those girls going crazy over problems of choosing thong A or demi-soft-hiphugger B. I just coudn’t help thinking “48-98 dollars for something only you and your boyfriend get to see?! Is that just a money waste or being selfish?”And than I’m not even starting about al the nice items of your next seasons wishlist you could buy of that money. And lets be honest shearing your style and identity with the rest of the world is so much more fun ;).

Céline Paris Gusset

June 2012, finally, the purchase day of my long beloved Céline Paris Gusset bag. Obviously I was happy as a little kid and high on adrenaline when I came out of the Céline store witch my new bag. As I looked into the mirror carrying my brand new bag in my elbow, I felt not only extremely happiness I felt so pride, and a new self confidence that completed me.  I did it! My mission was accomplished. What started looking as a silly unattainable girls dream and people laughing at the idea of spending so much money at one bag. Turned into a secret 7 month saving plan written in my little black book. And look at me now, this was something that I did for me. I didn’t have any regrets at all and I don’t care that people think I’m crazy to spend all this money on one bag. I had proven to myself that dreams and hopes can turn in to things and that is what makes me even more proud. This is me and this Céline bag is now a part of who I am.

Hi my name is Karlijn and I'm a geometric jewelry junky

This is my most-worn jewelry basked. In this I’l keep the pieces that are time-less to me.
I can’t happen to notice that I am a geometric junky. The clean, strong but yet simple feeling of a geometric jewelry piece is what makes my high and wanting to wear it!

Stylist, one of the most underestimated and under appreciated professions. As a stylist it’s not about making sure that the clothes are steamed and pressed and loving to shop so much that you want to do it for your profession. It’s about building an image, finding unorthodox references, balance between different styles, creativity. And one of the most important things telling a story and making the looks stronger by adding the model, hair, make up and atmosphere. When I found this pictures I finally felt clarity. For me this pictures give me the definition of what it means to be a great stylist. JeanPaul Paula gives his clothes something extra, he shows it from a different angle and again built’s an image! Something many fashion magazine’s could take an example from. Now I’l hear what your thinking: “Who would wear this in real live?!”. But thats not what its about, if an artist wants to paint a gold sky he does it. So why shouldn’t a stylist get the same freedom to?So next time when you look at a nicely styled serie in a fashion magazine, appreciate the choices that are made, the precisely placed collars, textures and hopefully the freedom that the stylist took.
